Не разбирам какво става с Дневник. В една от статиите си (от 26/27 септември) пишат, че Merrill Lynch е банка, а в друга, че ISE е "най-големия пазар на деривати в САЩ".

Merrill Lynch е brokerage house, не банка. Това, че предоставя investment banking услуги не я прави банка, също както това, че Елана, Бенчмарк, Карол, Капман и т.н. предоставят investment banking услуги не ги прави банки. В най-добрия случай са "Investment Banking Firms"... или по-скоро, "фирми, които имат investment banking отдели”.
По въпроса за ISE - ок, това може да е най-голямата в света борса за Equity Options, които са само един от многото деривативни ценни книжа, които се предлагат на борсите. Например започват да търгуват с FX options едва през април 2007... ако не ме лъже паметта нямат никакви futures например (само някакъв agreement, според който може да се очаква, че ще има за в бъдеще). За мастодонта CME Group (резултат от сливането на CME и CBOT) не се споменава.

Това е единственият ежедневник, който чета (освен investor.bg, ipo.bg, lev.bg и подобни, които са единствено интернет издания... дори не се възползвам от абонамента за pari.bg, с който разполагам) и ми се ще вестникът да си остане уважаван. Днес обаче имах усещането, че чета новини за Middle Earth или някоя друга паралелна вселена...

Дневник, моля ви, останете си най-уважавания всекидневник...

Да, май (пак) ще се опитам да пиша другаде - на нов домейн, предназначен само за журнала, с нов cms - твърде разпространения за моя вкус wordpress... Обичам drupal, но искам нещо as vanilla as possible, безоблачни условия за което да не може да си позволи да не предлага който и да било комерсиален хост. Затова - wordpress.
Само да избием всички бъгове по сървъра... оказаха се неочаквано много и вместо нещото да стане за 5+5+5 минути (регистрация на домейн, настройки на ns и иснатлиране на wp) май вече се проточва няколко дни, а най-лошото е че това ми носи предусещането, че ме (ни) чакат прикючения и за в бъдеще (което не ме прави особено щастлив, като се има в предвид колко неща си имам на главата... нищо чудно някой ден пак да ми писне и да си се върна пак тук... home sweet home)...

Преди да бързам да изпадна в захлас от победата над Люксембург се замислих за това колко щастливи са жителите на тази страна... те между другото са около 480 000 (малко повече от тези на Пловдив или на Варна или 1/3 от София)... не само живеят в страната с най-висок БВП на глава от населението, но имат и най-хубавите хобита на света - едно от тях е да играят в националния отбор на страната си. На колко места по света един градинар може да се похвали, че втората му работа е да играе в националния отбор на страната си и ежегодно да си разменя фланелки с европейски футболни звезди... къде другаде един отегчен автомонтьор може да каже, майната му на двигателя, ш' ида да играя в националния малко за тонус...
И паднаха достойно - с един гол (този от засадата и другият от дузпата не ги броим).
Какво щеше да прави нашият национален отбор без такива фрагодарители... може би щеше да играе срещу БАТЕ Борисов когато има нужда да си вдигне самочувствието...
Честито и на нас и на тях.
Но повече на тях...

Дали японската храна, която ни сервират в "японските ресторанти" у нас е представителна за японска храна в "типичния" смисъл на понятието? Или е приготвена с голямо желание за постигане на истинска прилика, което обаче е комбинирано с някои кулинарни компромиси, замени, импровизации и имитации?

Дали китайската кухня, с която сме свикнали и харесваме е представителна за китайската кухня като цяло? Или е европеизирана за да е достъпна за вкуса и културата ни доста по-успешно отколкото е европеизирана японската кухня. И има ли въобще такова нещо като представителна китайска кухня, когато разглеждаме страна с такова огромно население и територия и исторически процеси, за които не можем да бъдем сигурни, че не са останали безмилостни към много традиции...

С уговорката, че съм почти 90% сигурен, че китайската и японска кухня, която човек може да опита в София не е "представителна", спокойно мога да кажа, че Японската определено не е моята кухня. Единствено ми се иска китайските ресторанти да обръщаха по-голямо внимание на обстановката в самите заведения - никой не държи обстановката да напомня соц-смачкан Китай или съвременен cheap-plastic Китай - нека се върнем по назад във времето...

Днешната бележка в папка "Wishes" - китайски ресторант с автентична атмосфера, който да е в радиус до 3-4 километра от центъра... или поне с усет към атмосферата, подобен на този, с който могат да се похвалят някои японски ресторанти.

Summary:

300 is a total junk.
My rating: 4 out of 10.
It would be 2 without the special effects, 1 if Lena Headey was not in it.
Forecast: IMDB's ridiculous rating of 8.3 should fall to 7.3 in no less than 6 months (even this will be twice as much as it deserves).
Pop culture style of writing and reshaping history is a no-no.
Recommendation: If you insist on watching it, wait until you see it on tv for free.

The great expectations - aren't they the root of the heaviest disappointments. Well, I'll try to protect you.

Some days ago I saw 300's rating at imdb - 8.3!

It was in imdb top 250, place 167, before movies like Trainspotting, Heat, Snatch, Scarface, etc. Wow, I said, I cannot wait to see this. Well I did. And during most of the movie I could not help thinking "how pathetic".

This movie was made in the tradition of comic books, by a man who knows nothing but authoring pop culture comic books for money (Frank Miller). I'd prefer that he stayed with batman and that kind of culture and leave history alone. It is not a surprise at all that the movie is not true to history, just as Gladiator was an anachronistic joke, but in Gladiator at least they did not mess that much with significant historical events, just used them as context.

300 turns history into a complete pop joke. One targeted at people who go to a movie in the afternoon with a big paper bag of popcorn, chips and diet coke just after playing five hours Quake III Arena, shooting monsters. The authors wanted to present history batman-style or rather SinCity-style... Batman is one story - I very much liked "Batman Begins" with Christian Bale in it - you are sitting in an awe - dude, pop culture at its highest - people sometimes need that; but when anyone can take a historic episode and turn it into a complete Hollywood joke, then what's left for us but laugh at it or resent it. Personally I prefer to laugh at it, and I did, but when I think about the millions of people that would like this stuff and believe they know the story now and forever after...

I don't know how I would react if I were Greek - laugh or cry or be angry or what... Probably all of these. I surely know how I would feel if I were Perisan... The soldiers who came from basically the cradle of civilization were depicted as monsters or repulsive obese people or ridiculous transvestites (Xerxes). Xerxes' retreat was depicted as a whorehouse full of naked women with rotten faces...

Now, one of the secrets of great historians, even of great fictional stories, is treating with respect both sides of a war. Take the Illiad for example. No such thing here - Mr. Miller, true to batman-style/daredevil-style of writing - the monstrous evil guys and the vigilante.

Many would say:
"Who cares if they twist the facts to make the story more interesting."
Well, if you want to make a fictional story, use fictional names. Because apart from the names, this could have been a story about any battle - just another comic book. If you want to entertain - at least don't hurt.

Twisting history to make a pseudo-historic story more entertaining... Whoever likes that - that movie is for him/her.

Now, I won't write more about it since it's a double-waste-of-time AND because carcass_freak already said everything - I urge you to read his post, I could subscribe to every word in it.

Sometimes I think about leaving all that finance-stuff behind me and becoming a programmer.

Then (of course) I remind myself - dude, you are about 10 years too late.

Then I find something reassuring like this online:

"Anybody who wants to be a programmer, you should probably avoid studying programming in college for the same reason models avoid cheeseburgers..."

Then I say to myself... you know, I actually dig graphic design and photography...

And then - "think about the blood, the sweat and the tears you invested in a totally different direction..."

But that direction is crappy - in one month no one will remember your work.

In two you won't remember it either.

Then I think to myself - what the F, on a cosmic scale - everything is futile... even the pyramids are existing in a blink of an eye...

And then I think to myself - dude, get a grip...

This motherf*cker, one of my most, most, most favorite actors ever, Christaian Bale... is bloody insane. He lost so many kilos for The Machinist, then beefed up again for Batman, etc. and now he lost 25 kilos (55 pounds) again for Rescue Dawn...

I know he's hot the motivation, but I've always read and heard that it's unhealthy to rapidly change your weight... especially more than once... especially by starving...

Or, I may take it from the positive side - some guy on imdb's forums said it was damn healthy...

Why positive? Because I need to lose 25 kilos too... preferably overnight... preferably permanently... preferably just fat, not muscle...

man, this sucks, I have so many health problems lately...

Life bitchslaps me every once in a while.

As today for example.

Sometimes it's for the better - when it motivates me to "take it raw and be on my way" and when the slap comes at the right time...
and if it the despair does not crush too hard.

Bitchslaps are good. I often interpret them this way: don't expect to have options or freedom to chose in the future if you don't make the right choices today and work your ass off...
